Canning, Drying and Freezing

[JP is putting up jars of Elderberry/Blackberry/Oregon Grape jam while Apple Butter cooks behind him]

It's still the season to store food for Winter. The last few days have seen people turning their sights from our gardens to the surrounding landscape. Mishka is drying what looks like the last of the tomatoes. The forest is still full of elderberries, dried blackberries, manzanita berries and more.

The weaving is still chugging along, although more mechanical problems are slowing me down. It's all good.

I think JP just followed the directions on the pectin box but left out all the sugar. It's a very tart and yummy preserve. The Oregon Grape berries boost immune function as you eat your morning toast. I don't imagine you'd have those in Ireland, though...

Incidentally, I'm learning the old Celtic Ogham tree alphabet from a sweet Irish visitor tonight after dinner.
